Ork Trukks

When I first got the Ork army I was told that Ork Trukks were the be all and end all of the Ork army, this was before I figured out the advantage of a fully mech force and the meta game in general.

The advantages are pretty clear to see, you can get an effective 22 inch charge with them (13 inches with red paint, 2 inch deployment from the vechile, 1 inch as 40k bases are 25mm wide plus the 6 inch charge) which goes up to 28 inch when Waaagh is called.

The disadvantages are also on the table too, they are only armour 10/10/10 and open topped so they can be wrecked by small arms fire (well bolters at least but given the number of power armour players these days that is pretty much small arms fire). This is kinda offset by the Ramshackled table as it gives me a 1 in 3 chances of the destruction of the Trukk unharmed and another 1 in 3 chance of having the vechile move before it blows up and sometimes that gets your closer to the enemy. Finally they are 35 points a pop, which is the same price of a rhino; which while not a fast vechile (unless your blood angels) but is immune to most of the issues I brought up.

It used to be though that to make them effective you had to have lots of them with a Kustom Force Field, I'm seen some early armies that consist of a half dozen trukks. However in my experience that doesnt work, it basically means you have a 50% chance of avoiding destuction when it and thats not good odds comparesd to the anti-mech out there. I use mine at the moment to transport a 12 man mob of 'Ard boyz with stikkbombz to dislodge peeps off objectives or do rapid strikes on vechiles. I only have 1 at the moment, I used to have 4 but I took them appart to make something else (you'll see those later)

When I first got this vechile it was fully built with the side panels for armour, I removed all that so the vechiles profile is as low as possible and it looks a bit like a GorkaMorka Trukk (remember those) I modelled it with the only two upgrades I use which is Red Paint Job and Re-enforced Ram. I might make more but I dont know how to use more of them, I'm kinda hooked on Battlewagons at the moment, the other idea is to pick up some Big Trakkz from Forge World for friendly games as I seem to remember they are harder to kill.
This is the first of many pictures of my Ork army or if I am entirely truthfully my adopted Ork army, back when I was looking to get back into 40K after what seems like a 10 year break I picked up Black Reach and swapped all the Ork for Space Marines and bought a few tanks for them. After only a few games I didnt enjoy them at all, I found them to be too rigid in what I could do with them so I was contacted by a friend (Bradimus Prime from the Space Wolves Blog)  who had a ton of Orkz he had built up since 4th editon was in its twlight years. The quality of the models varied alot from some that required zero effort to correct to some I had to really strip down to make them look nice. Bitching aside the army was unpainted save a small 10 man squad (or mob if I use the correct terminology) which was painted in a very simple scheme, It was basically Thraka Green over a black undercoat with Mecharite Red armour and Bolt Gun Metal weapons all with a black wash. I hadnt paint anything in years and was scared of making a hash of it all so I chose to stay with this scheme and make it my own.
The model on the left is the orignal work of Mr Prime himself and the one of the right is my 'copy' of it and I like how it turned out. I know it looks terrible, theres a ton of black thats unpainted and the base isnt finished but after been scared to pick up a brush again I think I am really happy with the result and it meant that I could do the second goal of starting 40K again, and that was going to tournaments. So I have worked hard to get the 2000+ points of Orkz painted and while I'm happy I know the army is far from finished and someday I need to go back and finish this army.

Under Construction

Just a random picture for the start of the Blog, at the time of writing I have yet to tell anyone about this blog so if this is the only post you see, well done you found me.

For everyone else this will be the first post with a picture of my building of my first battlewagon (wow that seems so long again) with my old set up of using a wooden board on the kitchen table. I moved all this stuff to my room to keep it all easy to reach, I will see what I can do about getting a picture of the new setup.
